Metro Deaf School, a free public charter school serving Preschool-12th Grade, provides a bilingual and interdisciplinary curriculum using American Sign Language (ASL) and English for students who are primarily Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing.
Metro Deaf School promotes academic excellence for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students using an ASL/English bilingual approach. Our primary purpose is to empower our students to develop the skills and knowledge to succeed as global citizens.

The MDS Board is seeking awesome, motivated candidates from the community to apply to join the Board! 

The Board has three board positions opening for election at the May 20, 2021 annual meeting. Elected board members will serve three years and commit to spending 2 to 4 hours attending monthly board and committee meetings. If you or know someone who has a passion for education for children who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind, please consider applying! 

Applications are due Tuesday, May 11, 2021 and can be emailed to me or printed and dropped off in my mailbox. Applications will be reviewed at the May 17 board meeting and presented to the general members at the annual meeting for elections on May 20, 2021. Click here to apply.

Metro Deaf School Board Announcement
At the school board meeting on April 27, 2020, the Metro Deaf School board approved revisions to MDS bylaws allowing the board to reschedule annual meetings of members under extenuating circumstances with a 30-day notice to members. 
 Next, the board voted to reschedule the annual meeting of Metro Deaf School members from May 28, 2020 to October 8, 2020 due to extenuating circumstances, specifically the covid-19 pandemic and Governor Walz's executive order closing school buildings until the end of the current academic year. 
 The school board, including members whose term is scheduled to end in June, will continue to serve on the board until October 2020  in support of the Metro Deaf School community including students, parents, and staff until the annual meeting and board elections.

En la reunión de la junta directiva escolar del 27 de abril de 2020, la junta directiva escolar de la Metro Deaf School aprobó revisiones de los estatutos de la MDS que le permiten reprogramar las reuniones anuales de los miembros bajo circunstancias atenuantes con un aviso de 30 días a los miembros.
