Metro Deaf School, a free public charter school serving Preschool-12th Grade, provides a bilingual and interdisciplinary curriculum using American Sign Language (ASL) and English for students who are primarily deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing.

Metro Deaf School promotes academic excellence for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students using an ASL/English bilingual approach. Our primary purpose is to empower our students to develop the skills and knowledge to succeed as global citizens.

The Board has selected Dean of Students Melissa Sweetmilk and Student Life Director Ronda Jo Miller as the new Interim Co-Directors for the 2014-15 school year.  Both Directors will have specific duties assigned and will also continue with their present duties.  The Board is confident in their interim selections while it continues to conduct its Executive Director search during the coming months.

Executive Director and MDS Founder Dyan Sherwood retired as of June 30, 2014 after working 40 years in the field of Deaf Education. She will continue to be involved at MDS in different areas where she can share her expertise.
