Authorizer

Metro Deaf School is authorized by Volunteers of America-Minnesota.  VoA MN is an approved charter school authorizer through the Minnesota Department of Education. Every charter school in Minnesota is required to have an Authorizer (formerly known as a "sponsor").  VoA currently serves as the authorizer for 14 charter schools across the state of Minnesota.  Each charter school is required to develop a contract and an accountability plan with their authorizer.  The contract requirements and accountability plan are reviewed annually by VoA.  Renewal of a contract (every 3-5 years) is dependent on overall performance and the meeting of goals/expectations set forth by VoA and the school board working collaboratively to determine what is best and most realistic for their school.  VoA offers their schools non-profit management and board governance, as well as resources in the area of accountability and teaching.
